Inside Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique

Costa Rica stands as a global beacon of biodiversity, boasting an unparalleled richness of life within its lush rainforests, cloud forests, wetlands, and coastal ecosystems. Despite occupying only 0.03 per cent of the Earth’s land area, this small but vibrant country is home to roughly five per cent of the world’s species, positioning it as one of the most biodiverse places on the planet. This natural wealth not only attracts eco-conscious travellers but also has drawn major international brands, such as Waldorf Astoria, which sees Costa Rica as a prime location for expansion into new, captivating destinations. The country’s unique blend of conservation and sustainable tourism has solidified its place as a global leader in both environmental preservation and high-end development.

Situated along the tranquil shores of Playa Penca on Punta Cacique, the 188-key resort provides a refined haven with stunning views of Costa Rica’s Northern Pacific Coast. Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique shelters six regionally-inspired dining experiences, world-class amenities including a multi-level pool, a 4310 square metre spa and fitness centre, and 254 square metres of versatile meeting space.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the grand opening of Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique, a significant addition to our presence in the region. This property marks the debut of the brand in Costa Rica and offers guests an unparalleled level of luxury and our signature Waldorf Astoria hospitality,” said Danny Hughes, President, Americas, Hilton. “We look forward to welcoming travellers from around the world to discover Costa Rica’s rich heritage, vibrant culture and natural beauty.”

The landscape design incorporates native flora that conserves water and gradually envelops the structures, fostering a deep connection with the surrounding environment. Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos of Mexico City crafted indoor and outdoor spaces to flow effortlessly together, intentionally integrating into natural site contours and featuring living rooftops to mitigate heat and enhance sustainability. The resort proudly holds the prestigious Costa Rican ‘Bandera Azul Ecológica’ award for Playa Penca, which recognises the effort of organisations that seek to improve environmental conditions, underscoring its commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation.

Upon arrival, guests are immersed in the area’s natural beauty. The design crafts a unique guest journey, starting at the arrival building reception and Terrace Bar with sweeping, panoramic views of Playa Penca from every angle, creating an immediate sense of calm. Pathways guide guests organically to their rooms and the vibrant public area known as Poblado, featuring exquisite dining venues and the iconic Waldorf Astoria Clock. This journey continues through a cascading sequence of pools and waterfalls, culminating in an elevated path that leads to the Beach Lounge and the stunning Sunset Rooftop.
